Invisible Wounds
YCAP’s Invisible Wounds Program provides support and resources to individuals and families impacted by trauma, violence, and emotional distress.
The program focuses on healing, resilience, and prevention through education, outreach, and access to supportive services, helping participants strengthen coping skills and promote overall well-being within the community.
Through support from the New York State Office of Victim Services (OVS), Yonkers Community Action Program (YCAP) provides comprehensive services to individuals impacted by crime, including those experiencing invisible wounds such as emotional, psychological, and mental health trauma. YCAP connects victims to specialized counseling, trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and supportive services designed to promote healing and long-term stability.
In partnership with OVS, YCAP assists victims in accessing financial compensation for unreimbursed expenses, including counseling, medical costs, and lost wages resulting from victimization. Services are delivered with a strong emphasis on confidentiality, dignity, and individualized support, ensuring that survivors receive the care and advocacy they need to recover and rebuild their lives.
YCAP works to co-create safe, confidential spaces where victims can share their experiences and begin the healing process. Our trained advocates meet directly with crime victims to assess their individual needs, determine appropriate services, and outline all available avenues of support and community resources. Services include trauma-informed crisis intervention, emotional support, and assistance accessing specialized counseling and financial compensation available through OVS for unreimbursed expenses such as medical bills, therapy, and lost wages.
YCAP advocates accompany victims to court appearances, hospitals, and police stations, providing reassurance and guidance throughout what can often be an overwhelming process.
